7 Habits That Can Help You Lose Weight

Weight loss isn’t a fad diet or intense workouts; it is about making sustainable changes in your life to improve your health and wellness. Here are seven simple habits you can add to your daily routine.

1. Set realistic, attainable goals.

Start with something small and specific. For example, lose 5% to 10% of your weight over 6months. This gives you a target that is more manageable or realistic and much more likely to result in long term weight loss.

2. Keep track of what you eat and what you do.

Keeping a food diary, or exercise journal, can increase your awareness about what you’re doing and what you want to change. So, it doesn’t matter if you use a notebook or your phone’s app – keeping track of what you eat and what you do can be a powerful tool for you to create change.

3. Find supporters.

Surround yourself with friends, families, or groups that hope you achieve your weight loss success. It is a good idea to find someone to talk about your experiences, challenges, and successes with during your weight loss journey.

4. Include Fun Physical Activity

Select non-structured physical activity that you enjoy (ex: dancing, swimming, walking) so physical activity will become more frequent in your routine. When you enjoy your activity, it has a greater chance of becoming a long-term habit.

5. Sleep Well

You want to obtain approximately 8 hours of sleep each night. When you have organized sleep, it helps to regulate the hormones that control hunger and satiety, which could help to prevent overeating.

6. Eat Mindfully

Eating in moderation can be practiced if you eat slowly and with no distractions. When you chew slower you are better able to recognize your body’s hunger and fullness signals, making it easier to avoid overeating and increase your enjoyment of meals consumption.

7. Hydrate Yourself

Water enables feelings of fullness, especially before meals and makes you consume less food, while also increasing your metabolic rate. Aim for about 1 – 2 liters of water per day to assist your weight loss goals.

If you incorporate these habits into your life, it is a sustainable pathway to losing weight + better health. Be consistent, and remember: small habit changes can yield large results months down the line!
